Acupuncture in Norwood, Ohio

Acupuncture alongside your oncology care

A quiet room, a lift chair and air without scent. One acupuncturist, who plans each visit around your treatment days and keeps your oncology team in the picture.

A quiet treatment room in warm light: a linen-draped table, a lamp by the window and a small tray of sealed single-use needle packets on a wooden side table

How a visit works

Built around your treatment days

Nothing here replaces what your oncology team has planned. It fits in around it.

  • Planned around your calendar

Tell us your infusion, radiation and surgery dates. We place each visit between them and move it when your week changes.

  • Gentle by design

Fewer, finer needles and shorter sessions. On a day when needles are not right, we use ear seeds or acupressure instead.

  • Your team in the loop

With your written OK, we send a short note to your oncology team after the first visit, so everyone knows what you are doing.

A letter before your first visit

Alongside your care, never instead of it

Dear new patient,

If you are reading this, you are probably in the middle of something hard, or just out the other side of it. Acupuncture at Finch sits alongside your oncology care. We do not change your treatment, your medicines or your appointments, and we will ask you about all three.

You set the pace. You can stay in your clothes, keep your blanket and ask us to stop at any point. If your week is rough, call and we will move your visit.

I look forward to meeting you.

Precautions

Before we begin, we ask

Six things we always ask, and what we do about each.

  • Your treatment dates

Chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy or surgery: we plan around them.

  • Your recent blood counts

If they are low, we wait, adjust or use needle-free care.

  • Lymph nodes removed

No needles in an arm or leg on that side, or where there is swelling.

  • A port, a line or a pump

Needles stay well clear of anything implanted or attached.

  • Blood thinners

Tell us what you take, so we choose needles and places with care.

  • A fever or feeling unwell

Call your oncology team first, then us. We would rather move the visit.

What this is not, and when to call someone else

Acupuncture here does not replace your oncology care. We do not change your treatment, adjust your medicines or tell you what to decide with your team. Some people notice a difference in how they feel; some do not.

Call your oncology team the same day for a fever, new bleeding, sudden swelling in an arm or a leg, or shortness of breath. For chest pain, trouble breathing or sudden weakness, call 911.

Start with a call or a note

Tell us where you are in your care and when you are free. We reply on the next working day with a time that fits around your treatment.

Questions people ask first

Should my oncology team know?

Yes. We ask your permission to send them a short note, and we encourage you to tell them you are coming. Acupuncture here sits alongside your oncology care.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel a brief pinch, a dull ache or nothing at all, and the needles are very thin. Tell us at any point and we adjust or stop.

What if I cannot have needles that day?

Then we use ear seeds or acupressure, or simply give you a quiet half hour. There is no pressure to have needles.

Do I have to stop my medicine?

No. Keep taking what your prescribers gave you, and tell them about everything you use, including your visits with us. Bring us a list of everything you take, with vitamins and supplements, so we know too.

Does insurance cover it?

We are out of network and do not bill plans. We give you an itemized receipt to send to yours, and the plan decides. See how fees work.
