Acupressure you can do at home
Acupressure uses steady fingertip pressure on points of the hands, wrists and feet, with no needles. We teach you three or four points and how long to press, so you have something to do on a hard day.
It is gentle enough to start the same day you come, and it needs nothing but your hands. It is used alongside your oncology care.
What a visit is like, in order
Afterward you may feel calm or a little tired. Press lightly the first few times.
- 01
Step 1: We talk
About where your hands, wrists and feet feel well enough to press.
- 02
Step 2: We show
Three or four points, on us first, then on you, at a pressure that is comfortable.
- 03
Step 3: You try
With us beside you, until it feels easy.
- 04
Step 4: You take it home
On a written card, with a reminder to stop if anything hurts.
Tell us first
Say any of these when you book, and again at the visit.
Swelling or lymphedema
We choose points on the other side or away from the swollen area.
Numb or tingling hands and feet
Press lightly, because you may not feel how hard you press.
Low blood counts
We keep the pressure light and the sessions short.
Pregnancy
A few points are avoided in pregnancy.
Skin that is sore or healing
We skip it, and choose another point.
Pain that gets worse
Stop, and tell us at the next visit.
How many visits, and what this does not do
We check the points with you at each visit and change them when your week changes.
Acupressure does not replace your oncology care. If you press a point and feel sharp pain, dizziness or a new swelling, stop and call your oncology team.
Learn your points
Book a first visit, or call to talk it through. Fees are explained on the how fees work page.
